Stergios N. Sakkos
1930-2012
Stergios N. Sakkos born in Grevena in 1930 graduated with honors and earned a doctorate degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, AUTH, Department of Theology. He carried out post-doctoral research in Germany and served as a professor of Introduction and Interpretation of the New Testament at AUTH Department of Theology.
His writings, covering the whole range of Theological studies, exceed well over 100 books with thousands of pages and there are still dozens of unpublished works with interpretative and constructive content.
He developed intense theological, preaching and catechetical activities in numerous Holy Dioceses in Greece and abroad such as England, Germany, Australia. He presented topics of popularized Theology and spiritual way of life as a guest in radio and TV programs.
He founded and directed an anti-heretical Program aiming to deal with heresies. Being the Head of Bible study gatherings, he issued manuals for people in charge of Bible meetings with interpretative approaches to whole books of the New Testament and selected passages from the Old Testament.
He interpreted all the books of the New Testament and a large part of the Old Testament in more than ten thousand speeches and lectures. Additionally, he contributed to Theological and Clergy Conferences with hundreds of presentations.
He served as a spiritual leader and teacher of Christian Orthodox Brotherhoods in Thessaloniki: “ΑΠΟΛΥΤΡΩΣΙΣ”, “ΧΡΙΣΤΙΑΝΙΚΗ ΕΛΠΙΔΑ” “ΘΕΟΤΟΚΟΣ” “ΣΙΛΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΤΙΜΟΘΕΟΣ” as well as of the Orthodox Youth Association called “ΛΥΧΝΟΣ”.
He founded and directed a private junior high school for a decade, along with the Boarding School located in Agios Athanasios town in the broader area of Thessaloniki. He is also the founder of “ΘΕΟΤΟΚΟΣ” kindergarten and “ΕΛΠΙΔΑ” primary Schools.
