Nowadays this question is in all people’s heart, not only the little ones» but also the older ones», and it looks for an answer… Everyone has his/her own perspective.
Great effort is being put on celebrating these days with glory! Even the darkest corner has been filled, or should we say flooded with Christmas ornaments and decorations.…
As I’m walking in one of the busiest streets in town, while glancing at the festively decorated department stores and hearing the Christmas songs at full blast, I realize that all these are just a shiny wrapping. Everybody want to feast, to have the celebration of their life! However, the cruel reality shakes our mind out of the well designed fairytale. A little further, some youngsters with blurry eyes are trying hard to balance themselves, to take one step… an old man is begging for some bread…the bombings and the human misery are on every TV screen…and the people are passing by.…everyone isolated… everyone including me, the question still in my mind:
Where is Christ going be born this year?
Will we celebrate Christmas this year?
I hear a familiar voice in my head: «I don’t want Christmas to come! Christmas is a feast of joy and I’m so unhappy, I have too many problems». The whole world is full of problems, dead-ends, pain, misery, death… Peace is absent both outside and inside… Even so, You, my Lord, are still searching for a suitable lodging…in our poor earth!
«Smarten the manger» prompts us the (religious/ecclesiastical/church) hymn… it calls for every person…for me! Yes, I do, I really want to let the uncontainable God to be born in my and all people’s heart which craves forν happiness, peace and love…«Smarten the manger»! But how? «In purity let’s brighten ourselves, let us shimmer by means of our virtues», that’s the path, that’s the way indicated by our Orthodox Church… It’s up to us to cross it, as long as we can! Well, there is enough time to «prepare with fear and joy» and yes, we can celebrate this year too a MERRY CHRISTMAS!
